The Mountain Women

"Well, lookie here, Youngins... we got company! Come on in... take yer shoes off and set a spell."

The Mountain Women are professional storytellers and humorists. They are nationally award-winning artists who do storytelling performances, and have also been workshop facilitators and keynote speakers for various groups across the country. This tandem team of tellers has over 30 years of experience working with children and adults. Combined with this love of people is a love for their mountain heritage, which they bring alive throught the medium of story.

Hailing from Nitro, WV, The Mountain Women have performed in churches, libraries, schools, state parks, nursing homes hospitals, corporate functions, summer camps and workshops all over West Virginia as well as other states. In 1998 they were crowned the National Storytelling Champions during the Storyteller's Celebration '98 in Hillsboro, Ohio.

Using costumes, dialects, props, poetry, comedy, and drama, The Mountain Women weave together a unique program that have the audience laughing one minute and weeping the next. The matriarch, Suzi Whaples, is known as "Mamma" and her teammate is Carrie Newman.
